PostSubject: PFI Smoke Silencer   Sat Dec 15, 2007 11:44 am

The PFI Smake cap silencer is looking sick. I might have to pick on up:

I am not quite sure how they work, but I think you need to buy a refill every now and then, which kind of sucks. it would be nice if you could just use flower or something. flower

What do you guys think about these?

ive got one, they are alright, but the threads are plastic and they ended up getting stuck to my gun.

in fact, there are no metal parts on the thing other than the screws that hold in the crappy plastic thread adaptors

it got hit one day and the round punctured a hole in the can Crying or Very sad so i ended up just throwing the thing away

ohh really, I was just assuming that they where all metal. Are you sure it was the PFI one?

here it says: "Smokecap's outer shell is metal, with white printed PFI trademarks"

Man I hope he isn't talking about the PFI. That sucker has been on my "to buy" list for a long time.

Maybe you're missing a part or something? Mine is all plastic, except for a metal sleeve that sits over the plastic main internal bit. I haven't shot at it or anything, but it seems like it would be able to take a pretty bad hit without cracking, even without the metal sleeve...

The plastic threads do look like they will strip over time (haven't been taking mine off and putting it back on all that much), but the way I see it it would be better for the threads on the suppressor to wear than the ones on the gun.

I don't think you could refill the "smoke" part, or at least if you can it wouldn't be worth it, since the smoke container is just a cardboard/paper tube and refills only cost around $7.50, and last quite some time.

Biggest problem I've had with mine so far is the smoke powder staining everything. The powder from a few shots doesn't really bother anything, but the powder can fall out of the front of the suppressor if you shake it and point it downwards. I'm not really sure what it is, but it won't come out of my rug, and it left a stain on my desk after getting wet. Only small amounts of powder seem to get into the inner barrel though, so that doesn't seem to be a problem.

I want one... if for no other reason then to disect it and figure out how it works and perhaps build a better one if it really is kinda poor quality.

Well it looks fairly easy to take apart and replace:

I just wonder if it may be possible to in any way refil them buy yourself. I guess I will just have to take a look and see what their made of.

I also think that since the only thing that is giving off smoke is the refil cardboard insert. Is if it is possible to take that and it in a more expensive King Arms or Mad Bull full metal silencer that has the same dimensions. THAT would be cool.

Okay, two questions:

Does it actually suppress your gun?

If yes- do you need the inserts for it to do that?

Thanks..

I think it does supress the gun somwhat, but not as much as if you made this one: http://airsoftgasgun.subject-expert.com/how-to-s-and-guides-f13/how-to-build-your-own-functional-silencer-t54.htm

I would think that the inserts would be needed to supress the gun but it may also change the sound without them.

What would be cool is if you just got the insert for $8 and put it in your own custom silencer...

well it seems cool to me but kind of pointless if you ask me I think it would be promblematic to try and replace the (smoke maker) and if you want a silencer why not jus build your own like Admin said plus it would ber kind of fun to say yea I built that
